Medal v Par

Scoring is done as in match play, with holes being won or lost by comparing the player’s nett number of strokes (including strokes made and penalty strokes) to Par. In this competition you use your handicap allowance on each relevant hole, rather than in stroke play where you take your handicap allowance off at the end of the game.  Depending upon your handicap, take off the appropriate number of shots from your gross score at each hole to calculate your net score and that will determine whether you have won, halved or lost the hole.

  • If the player’s nett score is lower than Par, the player wins the hole (+)

  • If the player’s nett score is the same as Par, the hole is tied (also known as halved) (=)

  • If the player’s nett score is higher than Par, or no score is returned, the player loses the hole (-)

A player who does not hole out under the Rules for any reason loses the hole.

To help pace of play, players are encouraged to stop playing a hole when their score exceeds Par (as they have lost the hole). The hole is completed when the player holes out, chooses not to do so or when his or her score exceeds the fixed score.
